The assignment will deliver a policy-focused assessment of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in Africa, including a comparative analysis of two selected countries. It will identify key constraints and opportunities for ASM formalization, with particular attention to gold and critical minerals linked to the energy transition. The study will assess priorities relevant to the AfDB’s (The Bank) Currency Risk Mitigation Mechanism (CRMM), including traceability, production recording, and formal market access. Findings will inform AfDB policy dialogue, operational programming, and technical assistance interventions.
