At the request of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is financing the Digital Value Chain Infrastructure for Boosting Employment (D-VIBE) Project, also referred to as Project BRIDGE. The project aims to expand Nigeria’s fibre backbone from 35,000 km to at least 125,000 km, making it Africa’s third-longest terrestrial network after Egypt and South Africa. This expansion will address the shortfall in existing infrastructure, which currently meets only one-third of national needs, by extending coverage to underserved and unserved areas. D-VIBE sits within the wider strategy of the ICT Operations Division (PITD.2) and forms part of the vision, strategies and plans of the AI 10 Billion programme and the Africa Digital Transformation Action Plan (DTAP).
The success of D-VIBE Project will depend not only on infrastructure deployment but also on successfully convening key partners towards the project’s larger outcomes. Building and executing these partnerships will require strategic, compelling and targeted communication.
