The Africa Energy Transition Catalyst (AETC) is a flagship African Development Bank initiative that accelerates Africa’s just energy transition in support of the Paris Agreement. It consolidates Bank support to Regional Member Countries to scale renewable energy, strengthen energy security, and align national frameworks with low-carbon development pathways. AETC comprises six energy-transition triggering projects structured under two pillars: regional energy transition initiatives and national Just Energy Transition (JET) initiatives. The program strengthens technical, regulatory, and financial foundations for renewable energy through feasibility studies, investment preparation, and knowledge exchange. AETC also contributes to Mission 300—the joint AfDB–World Bank initiative to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030—by aligning energy-transition investments with access and reform priorities.
