Background
The Project aims to support the development and improvement of the living conditions and income of the populations living in the riparian zones of the selected protected areas in order to promote public acceptance of biodiversity conservation in these zones.
Job Description
Oversee the planning and implementation of PA management measures, especially related to
(a) improved social and economic infrastructure in PA buffer zones,
(b) promotion of sustainable agriculture/sustainable management of natural resources,
(c) identification, analysis, implementation and monitoring of related investments in the buffer zones of selected PAs;
Facilitate communication with the different partners (ICCN, KfW, representatives of NGOs and PPPs, such as WWF or WCS, and donors);
Coordinate the multi-disciplinary team of international, national and regional experts
Ensure the administration of the project (consultant side) and supervise the team;
Supervise the short-term experts in their missions;
Monitoring the implementation and progress of the project;
Monitor the impacts of the implementation of environmental and social measures in the Project Area;
Ensure regular reporting
Candidate's Profile
Postgraduate studies in the field of agricultural sciences, management of natural resources, land use management, sustainable management and/or conservation (University degree, Master's degree, Engineering degree in similar field);
General professional experience in related of at least 10 years;
Professional experience of at least 5 years in managing complex projects, including three years in developing countries, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa;
Specific professional experience in PA management, planning/preparation/implementation of measures to improve the social and economic infrastructure in rural areas, sustainable development of PA buffer zones, introduction/dissemination of sustainable agricultural and/or NRM practices
Familiarity with the peculiarities of social planning in relation to protected areas
Professional experience in investment planning, preparation, implementation and monitoring
Proven experience in financial and budget management
Experience as team leader/coordinator in multidisciplinary teams
Regional experience in francophone Africa, with project experience in RDC being an asset;
Excellent command of French and English, both written and spoken, for report writing. Fluency in German is an advantage
