UNICEF Malawi Country Programme (2019-2023) is aligned with the Government of Malawi’s Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS 111) and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The programme supports the Government of Malawi to meet its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights in line with international conventions and standards. The country programme is guided by the principles of children’s rights, equity, gender equality, inclusion and resilience, and supports evidence-based, integrative and innovative programming. The vision is that ‘all girls and boys in Malawi, especially the most disadvantaged and deprived, realize their rights’. The programme focuses on: early childhood (parenting, high-impact social services, early stimulation and learning), middle childhood and adolescence (learning, multi-sectoral services, active citizenship), communities (decentralized services and systems, community ownership, social norms), programme effectiveness (monitoring, evaluation, HACT, Innovation, Social Protection and Social Policy and External Communication. The programme is based on ‘leaving no child behind’, realizing ‘rights for all children in Malawi’.
How can you make a difference?
As the head of operations of a large-sized office, the incumbent is accountable for management of cost effective, efficient and secure operations, in support of management, administration and implementation of the country programmes, consistent with operations of all other country offices in the Region in accordance with strategy, plans and decisions made by Regional Management Team and Country Programme Management Teams. The incumbent also provides guidance in operations to a gender-balanced, multidisciplinary team of professionals to identify and correct gender balances.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in one of the following fields is required: accounting, business administration, economics, or financial management.
*A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
A minimum of eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: office management, finance, accounting, ICT, human resources, supply, administration or other related areas.
Both national and International work experience in management, finance, accounting, ICT, human resources, administration supply and procurement related fields is required;
Work experience in an emergency duty station is an asset.
Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
