Job Description
SUSTAIN Eco Project: The SUSTAIN Eco project will be led by IUCN, with SNV and AWF responsible for leading implementation in the Sumbawanga landscape (SNV) and the Kilombero landscape (AWF). The project will run for three years. It is expected to commence on or around 1st November 2022. SNV's work will focus on six districts (Sumbawanga, Mpanda, Kalambo, Nkasi, Tanganyika, and Nsimbo) in Sumbawanga and Rukwa regions.
The project covers issues such as
Conservation agriculture
Assisted regeneration of miombo woodlands
Integrated water resource management/ basin management (Lake Rukwa basin/Rufiji River basin)
Waste water management
Payment for ecosystem services initiatives, including carbon offset projects
Community conservation banks
Participatory village land-use planning
Principle duties and responsibilities
The Project Manager will have twin responsibilities: an executing role, responsible for liaison with the Sumbawanga-based representative of IUCN and the IUCN project manager, national and partners, and other stakeholders, and an implementing role with responsibilities for task management, quality assurance, and technical assistance.
Specifically, the Project Manager will be responsible for this
Fine-tuning the theory of change, activity plan, logical framework, and recruitment of the project team
Engagement of landscape and corridor stakeholders and other potential partners
Work with relevant government agencies to ensure alignment with their priorities, as well as to reach out to small farmers' communities
Operational planning
Project management, including regular reviews of budgets, work planning, human resource, activities, and donor reporting.
Routine physical monitoring visits to assess the quality of activity implementation, milestones, and indicator results reported.
Liaison on a regular basis with consortium partners on project progress, approach, and processes.
Organization of and participation in project management team meetings, SNV staff meetings, and other relevant project activities and events.
Periodic project reviews and learning forums and ensure proper documentation of findings and learning.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Proven track record in project management, specifically in project planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and financial management for large-scale comprehensive projects
At least 8 years experience of working in development programs in a rural context, including at least 3 years working in projects related to natural resource management, conservation, or environmental management in Tanzania.
Hands-on experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder platforms
Experience working in international organizations, the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural setting, and the ability to effectively coach and lead a team of advisors
Master’s degree in environmental science or related field.
Excellent communication skills in English and Swahili (both written and oral), including very strong report writing and presentation skills.
Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as assigned/delegated by the Country Director or a sector leader who is authorized by the country director to provide technical support to the project
Willingness to travel long distances in remote rural areas
Tanzanian National, or have the right to live and work in Tanzania prior to taking up the position

Reporting
Report directly to the Country Director SNV Tanzania.
Nature of work
The work entails 80% field work and 20% office work.
Other terms of the Assignment
This initial agreement is for a period of three years commencing on 1st November 2022 and ends on 31st October 2025, subject to the satisfactory completion of the probation period as set out in SNV Tanzania’s Terms of Employment.
