Summary:
The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 number of hours per week).

Duties
The position is located in the Abidjan Regional Center. Incumbent serves as a Regional/Bureau translation resource for 18 constituent West African countries as well as other senior level officials in the Bureau of African Affairs. Incumbent translates cables and demarches to be delivered to the host nations and other complex documents (between English and French and vice versa), drafts diplomatic notes and other documents, and serves as a regional interpreter for staff members on VIP visits. Incumbent provides translation of documents into French for use by all constituents served as well as translation unique to one (or more) countries. Incumbent also interprets for workshops and seminars hosted by Embassy's officials as needed.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Three years' translation and interpretation experience in an international institution or any organization that executes international programs/policy is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: A good understanding of political, economic and diplomatic practices in one or more constituent countries required. Knowledge of regional resources for obtaining new information related to politics and economy and comprehension of U.S. foreign policy objectives is required. Extensive knowledge of political, economic and diplomatic grammar and vocabulary for both English and French is required. Knowledge of Department of State official written protocol procedures required.
Education Requirements:
University degree (Bachelor’s) in Bilingual studies (English and French) and additional 2 years of certification in translation is required.

LANGUAGE:
French: (Professional Translator/Interpreter) Speaking/Writing/Reading is required. This may be tested.
English: (Fluent) Speaking/Writing/Reading is required. This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Interpretive abilities that will guarantee translated documents capture the meaning and intent of an original document is required. Adaptability, organizational skills and the ability to manage and balance multiple tasks related to multiple translation tasks in an accurate form and expedient manner are required. Must possess critical comparison skills to ensure language version certification.
