Given the rapidly increasing interest and activities on Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) in Africa, there are now excellent conditions for building a strong network of African countries, where their capacity to develop and use NCA can be amplified through mutual support and joint activities.
The African Development Bank, through the Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre (ECNR) is hosting the Africa Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice (Africa NCA CoP). The hosting was taken over from the World Bank in September 2025. The Bank is therefore preparing the 3rd Africa Policy Forum on Natural Capital 2026 (AFNC 2026). The Forum will provide a continental platform to move Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) from account production to practical use in policy, finance, investment, budgeting, legislation and development planning. The purpose of the assignment is to among others, prepare a high-quality policy paper that provides the analytical foundation for AFNC 2026 and supports practical recommendations for institutionalizing NCA across Africa.
