The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative is to assist governments to develop policies, programs and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The position is under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Ethiopia and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Program) and closely works with Country office Teams.
The incumbent will provide support to the FAO Ethiopia (FRETH), in the area of programme coordination, proposal development, report writing, documentation of lessons learned, preparation of briefings and monitoring and evaluation of programmes.
Tasks and responsibilities
Engage in program design in a full-fledged and fine-tuned procedures and techniques,
Compile, write, edit and review progress, interim and final reports, briefing notes, and background information. The Programme Specialist will adhere to FAO’s reporting and editorial guidelines and templates to ensure consistency and correctness in use of language.
Collaborate with responsible officers in FAO Ethiopia (FRETH), Sub Regional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE), Regional Office (RAF) and Head Quarters (HQs) to finalize reports for final submission to the appropriate reporting unit, ensure timely clearance and the editorial quality of the reports.
Undertakes outreach activities; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities
Support technical officers in the preparation of concept papers, project and programme proposals using FAO and donors requirements. Follow the progress in the submission of the documents to relevant donors
Assist in the regular monitoring of FAO Ethiopia’s programme to ensure that all operational and financial aspects are in line; liaise with FRETH and SFE internal Units to address all programme related issues;
Assist in design of field studies, baseline surveys, and programme evaluations. Assist country office in hosting various missions from Head Quarters through preparation of background information, briefing notes and programmes
Contribute to FRETH knowledge sharing and learning activities and related knowledge products; ensure integration, learning, sharing and adoption of best practices.
Contribute to enhancing and promoting FAO and donor visibility. As well, involve in the general visibility initiatives on FAO programmes (bulletins, newsletters, posters, etc.).
Represent FRETH on national taskforces, technical committees and coordination meetings to maintain FAO’s presence and share experiences
Perform other related duties, as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Candidates should be national of Ethiopia;
Advanced university degree in agricultural development, agricultural economics, economics and development studies
Five years of relevant experience in the fields of development, rural development, project management, project design and monitoring and evaluation;
Excellent knowledge of English both written and spoken; and good knowledge of Amharic and any other languages is an asset
