PURPOSE OF THE TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT (TA)
The Communication Specialist is responsible for the design and roll out of a comprehensive communication and advocacy strategy to promote the acceleration of progress in child, women and adolescent health in West and Central Africa.
SUMMARY OF KEY FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES
As part of UNICEF’s regional communication team, the Communication Specialist will be responsible for planning, designing, rolling out and evaluating all aspects of a comprehensive communication and advocacy strategy in support of the Fonds Français Muskoka Partnership, which brings together the French Government and several UN agencies (UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, UN Women), to accelerate progress in reducing child mortality and improving maternal health across West and Central Africa.
The Communication Specialist will
Prepare/review work plan, timeframe and budget to ensure alignment with the communication, advocacy and visibility objectives of the Partnership.
Build and nurture strong relationships with regional and global media, and liaise with journalists and reporters to promote the impact of the Partnership and highlight the situation of children and women in the region.
Manage the Partnership communication group, prepare meetings and encourage the engagement of all UN agencies and partners to identify and document best practices and innovative strategies on women, maternal, new-born, child and adolescent health in the region.
Oversee the production and promotion of quality content and initiatives, including print, broadcast and digital, for use at key advocacy/media moments progress and challenges in promoting sexual, reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health and nutrition in the region.
Support country offices in the communication and advocacy initiatives and coordinate field visits in selected countries to highlight the added value of the partnership.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations (or an undergraduate degree plus at least 8 years of demonstrated professional experience in the field of journalism, communications, external relations, public affairs, public relations or corporate communications.)
Five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast, and/or digital media.
Experience in advocacy work and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
International and national work experience with media.
Previous work experience in West and Central Africa is highly desirable.
Fluency in French and English
